Dennis Martin Hubbard

Moe i ka Maluhia, Dennis Martin Hubbard, PPL, CFII, MEI, AGI, BA, MA, Class A (P) CDL (b. 11/02/1940, Honolulu, HI – d. 07/18/2026, Rocklin, CA) and is now resting, “Outta Step,” alongside his wife, “Life Dancer,” Elizabeth “Erszebet” Emily Pataki.
He passed peacefully, his hands cradled by his children as they affirmed their love for him and thanked him for being their father.
He is predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth “Erszebet” Emily Pataki, his father, George “Granddad” Shipton Hubbard, Jr., his mother, Roberta “Tutu” Virginia (Née Barrett) Hubbard, his sisters-in-law, Lalitha S. Harben, and Holly Mary Pataki-Bettin, and his brother-in-law, Siv Raman.
Dennis is survived by his brothers, Douglas and Gary Hubbard, his son, Bruce S. Hubbard and his daughter, Jo’ Schrader; his son, Barry S. Hubbard; his daughter, Heather A. Wright, her husband Matthew, their children Kassandra and Connor; his son, Jonathan M. Hubbard, his wife Caitlin, his daughter Hannaliese, his sons Marshall and Fisher; his sister-in-law, Margit H. Pataki; and his brother-in-law, Herbert Lee Bettin.
Mr. Hubbard is a survivor of the Attack on Pearl Harbor, as were his parents and his grandparents. Both his father and his grandfather were civil servants for the Navy.
Dennis met his future-wife on Valentine’s Day, 1960, while riding on a bus from Kailua to the University of Hawaii, where he later earned a BA in English Literature.
Dennis earned multiple pilot/instructor pilot licenses and worked as an instructor pilot.
Dennis earned an MA in creative writing and his multi-subject teaching credential from CSU-Sacramento and briefly worked as a high school teacher.
Dennis went on to work as a driver and supervisor for the Sacramento Regional Transit.
Dennis commuted daily to work on a bicycle, rain or shine. He was awarded the Commuter Bicyclist of the Year by The Sacramento Transportation Management Association and the Sacramento Region Bike Commute Week in 2005 having commuted for over 30 years.
Dennis retired in 2010, to more fully enjoy his grown family and his love of arts and culture. He came from a musical family and liked to sing while playing the ukelele and the guitar. He wrote wonderful poetry and short stories, and also drew artistic sketches. He was a master of the pun and he could play cribbage like nobody’s business!
Dennis was a long-time member of the Sacramento Saturday Club, an esteemed, local, philanthropic organization that gives scholarships to music students. Dennis was a congregant of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento. He was a kind and generous man, husband, and father, and he will be missed by family and friends.
