Alfred “Fred” White

On December 22nd 2022 Fred White passed away at the age of 83 at his longtime Sacramento home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and other related health issues. He is survived by wife Maria of 57 years, brother Carl and children Alan, Stephan, and Desirée, 4 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Gilda, brothers John and Henry, Nieces and nephews.

Fred was born in Newport, Rhode Island December 7th, 1939, to John C. White and Gilda Cardoza White. He attended Rogers High School and then left Rhode Island to join the Army on January 10th, 1958. He served 2 tours in Viet Nam. The first tour in 1965 and then 1972. Over his 28-year military career he worked as an Aircraft Repairman then Inspector, Fixed Wing Inspector, Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor, Public Affairs supervisor, TV & Audio support activity in CA and Rota Spain, VCR repair, to Communications specialist.

The military allowed him to be stationed in many places around the world. His last posting was at Ft. Hood Texas. He retired from the Army as Sergeant Major in 1985. In 1987 he started a 16-year career in Civil Service with the Sacramento Army Depot Television-Audio Support Activity (TASA) division. He retired from Civil Service in 2003.

Fred loved snow skiing and would get a season pass allowing him to go often. He enjoyed driving and taking long road trips. He also enjoyed bike riding and long walks, Electronics repair whether it was computers or TVs, Reading news and technical journals, Computer maintenance and repair and Internet surfing. He loved to go to St. Elizabeth of Portugal Catholic Church & helped out there in numerous ways.

Fred had a big heart and was always able and willing to help anyone in need. He had a good sense of humor and used it often. He loved his family dearly. His grandchildren brought him so much joy whenever they visited, or they went to visit them.

A few things Fred did not like, bananas, loud noises and shopping for Christmas trees with his wife Maria.

Fred will be dearly missed by his family and many great friends. May God bless him.
