Edward Steven Secco (84) passed away on November 20, 2023. Edward fought his battle with dementia for 6 long years. Despite losing his memory and quality of life, he continued to have a positive personality and he was always everyone’s favorite patient and favorite friend.
Edward, fondly known as Poppy, was born to Manuel and Mary Secco in Sacramento on July 29, 1939. He served 4 years in the Air Force where he learned the trade of an Aircraft Electrician. He was a lover of abalone diving, seafood, music and fun with family and friends. We spent our childhood camping along the Northern California coast where we learned to go crabbing and clamming, pounding abalone and BBQing oysters. After Dad’s 35 year career, he lived most of his retirement years in Mendocino, California where he worked part time at the Point Arena Lighthouse as an electrician and dove for abalone at every opportunity.
Edward is survived by his sister Caroline, his children Tony, Steve, Janet and Susan, along with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephew.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Mary, his sister Claudia, and his great granddaughters Alexis, Nevaeh, Sofia , Lilyanna and Jaelynn.
Edward’s family will host a funeral service on Wednesday, December 6th, at Saint Mary’s Chapel at 6509 Fruitridge Road in Sacramento, California.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the YMCA in Edward’s name. Edward spent many years swimming laps at their indoor pool in downtown Sacramento.
RIP Dad. Thank you for giving us the gift of love and respect for the ocean. Gone but never forgotten.
