Fredrick Nichols

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Frederick W. Nichols passed into eternal life on July 6th, 2022. He is survived by his wife Patricia of 38 years, his son David (Jenny) and his grandsons Jacob and Zachary. He is also survived by his six nephews and nieces, as well as their spouses, children, and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil R. and Catherine Nichols; his sister, Mary Jo ‘Penny’ Evans; his brother, Virgil; and his infant son Stephen.
Fred was born and raised in Sacramento. He graduated from St. Patrick’s Grammar School (1960), Bishop Armstrong HS (1964), and Sacramento State (1968). After college he entered the Army and served as an Intelligence Sergeant with the 25th Infantry in Vietnam. During his college years he began his employment with the State of California working part-time at the Legislative Bill Room in the Capitol. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to state service as a Research Analyst with EDD for 10 years then entered the IT Division as a Programmer-Analyst. He served in this position at CALPERS, Bd of Equalization, and DDS for 40 years. Fred was an active member of St. Anthony’s Parish where he participated in the: RCIA Team, Marriage Preparation, Lector Ministry, Eucharistic Ministry and was also a founding member of the parish’s St. Vincent de Paul Conference.
Since his retirement in 2006, he volunteered every Friday morning at the SSIP Food Pantry. Also, he proudly acquired two Shih Tzus (Sugar and Charley) who gave him many happy moments during his senior years. He was an amateur genealogist who recorded about 1000 members to his family database, which led to writing his autobiography that he hoped to share with his descendants in the many decades to come. He liked to attend to his tomato and cucumber plants during the summer. A life-long learner, he often read a variety of books and enrolled in online courses to further his knowledge.

In lieu of flowers please send a donation to the SVDP Conference at St. Anthony Parish or the SSIP Food Pantry (5625 24th St, Sacramento, CA 95822).
