Harvey Ishimoto

Harvey Ishimoto was born on October 22, 1946 to Sam and Matsue Ishimoto in Sacramento, California. He passed away on August 7, 2022 at home in the loving company of his family after a long illness.

Harvey grew-up in Sacramento as part of a farming family with his sister Grace. He graduated from Hiram Johnson High School and went on to graduate from California State University at Fresno with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering.

While at Fresno State, Harvey met Margaret and the two were married in June 1970 and spent 52 years together.

After college, Harvey and Margaret moved back to Sacramento, where they started a family. They would have two children, Jennifer and Brian. Eventually, Harvey took over the family farm.

Harvey enjoyed many hobbies, including playing golf, card games, poker, softball and bowling. He coached many of his children’s youth teams. He also especially enjoyed spending time with his family and family vacations. In his later years, Harvey enjoyed playing games with his two grandsons (Hayden and Tyler Ishimoto).

His family will miss him, as he was always there to support family and friends. The family would like to thank the numerous nurses and aides of Sutter Hospice for their loving care and support over the last several months.

Private services were held. In lieu of flowers or Koden, donations may be made to ACC Senior Services at 7334 Park City Drive, Sacramento, California 95831.

Family Memories

When I remember Harvey, I think of the times during our childhood when he would tease me by snatching my beloved pillow or shout, tack, and grab me around the knees. I won’t forget his arranging sparklers on the front lawn of the old farm to spell out “Happy 4th” for a 4th of July finale. He was unpretentious, fun, funny, and could make others feel at ease. Remembering him makes me glad he was my cousin. I will miss him.
