JoAnn “JoJo” Munso
JoAnn Marie Munso passed away peacefully on August 20, 2022. She is survived by her sister Amy, brother Michael, nieces Lisa (Paul), Dana and Jessica (Brydon), nephews Danny and Brandon, grand-niece Olivia, and grand-nephew Sam. She is preceded in death by her loving parents Joseph and Ann, brother Joe, sister-in-law Diane and brother-in-law Jerry.
JoAnn was born in Sacramento and began working for the State of California at the age of 18 where she served until she retired at 55 after a very successful career. She served as an Executive Administrator aiding many appointed directors of the Department of Transportation. Toward the end of her career, she worked for the California Highway Commission, the California Transportation Agency and ultimately as an Administrative Assistant for the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
Known affectionately as “JoJo” by her loved ones, JoAnn was everyone’s favorite family member. She was always available for a phone call, whether it be 5 minutes or two hours long. She was the hub of her entire extended family and lifelong friends, always keeping everyone informed on what everyone else was doing. She had a magical way of making each person she spoke with feel like they were the most important thing in the world at that moment.
Her house was the desired hangout of her nieces and nephews who she loved and treated as her own children. It was also the home to nearly every holiday gathering, with a special emphasis put on Christmas Eve where she continued her parents’ tradition of hosting both her immediate and extended family each year. She would go all out with decorations and presents, which she always preferred to give rather than receive.
JoAnn was an avid sports fan, never missing a 49ers or Giants game. In retirement, she became even more of a “sports junkie,” as she often put it, watching anything and everything from basketball to golf to tennis. Her love of sports had many equals including, but not limited to, talking politics, shopping and gambling. She preferred to do these activities surrounded by as many friends and members of her family as possible. JoJo will be missed by these people for the rest of their lives and never forgotten.
