Mary Oy Wee, aka Yee Yok Wee, died in her home in Sacramento on December 21, 2021, at the age of 104.
Due to Covid, a private family service will be held on January 8, 2022.
Mary was born on November 9, 1917, in Toisan, Guangdong, China. She married Shew Sheung Wee and came to the United States in March 1948, making her home in Sacramento, California. Mary was resourceful and tenacious. Despite her lack of English skills, Mary, widowed in 1952, was able to raise 4 successful children. She worked seasonally for over 20 years for various Sacramento canneries. It was important to her to never rely on the welfare system for assistance. She was fiercely independent and proud that she was able to live in her own home until the end of her life.
Mary was devoted to her family and cared deeply about helping others, She excelled in her cooking (especially known for her dim sum dishes) and gardening. She used her various talents to provide hospitality to the many who knew her. She was active in her church and participated in women’s choir and women’s groups at the church. Praise God for His provision for her long life of 104 years.
Mary Is survived by her two sons and spouses, Jones (Doris) and Johnny (Cindy), her two daughters, Marjorie and May Lee (Don), and six grandchildren, Brian, Brandon, Aaron, Gabrielle, Isabelle, and Michelle, and three great-grandchildren.
Thanks to Sutter Hospice Care for their kindness and guidance with her care in her last days of her life.
