Masayuki Nagata
Masayuki “Mas” Nagata passed away on June 13, 2022 at his home in Sacramento in the loving company of his wife of 54 years, Carolyn, and children Kevin and Rhonda.
Born January 31, 1938 in Sacramento, Mas spent three years of his childhood at the Tule Lake and Amache internment camps. Despite this experience, he joined the Air Force becoming an aircraft radio repairman including two years of service overseas in Japan. After returning to Sacramento and graduating from Sacramento City College, he embarked on a 29-year career as a telephone systems engineer with AT&T/Pacific Bell.
Mas had a variety of interests including photography, reading, movies (Westerns), fast automobiles and being involved with youth sports, scouting and Buddhist Church bazaar activities. He especially enjoyed family vacations and get-togethers. Despite a somewhat gruff and stoic demeanor, his distinguishing qualities were his loyalty, commitment to doing the right thing, and his kindness in always being there in support of family and friends.
In addition to his family, Mas is survived by numerous esteemed relatives. He will be reuniting with older brother Hiroyuki who preceded Mas in death in February.
Mas’ final resting place will be at East Lawn in Sacramento. Services will be private in accordance with his wishes. No flowers or koden please, but if so inclined and able, donations may be made to the Buddhist Church of Sacramento at 2401 Riverside Drive, Sacramento, CA 95818.
