Patricia “Patty” McHugh

Dorothy Patricia McHugh went home to Jesus, on June 19, 2022. Patricia was 97 yrs old. “Patty” was born in Sacramento on January 8, 1925. She came from a strong stock of California pioneers. When Patty was a young teenager, she had the opportunity to be a student of dance & ballet. Patty had talent. She professionally danced and performed on stage, and came to know the backstages of every theater, auditorium, and fairgrounds in Sacramento and beyond.

Not surprisingly, she met her future husband, Mr. Robert E McHugh “Bob”, at a dance at the Memorial Auditorium. They met during World War ll, Bob was then stationed in Davis, CA.
Patty did love sharing the story of their first meeting.  Once Robert started dancing with Patty, he did not want to stop or let her dance with anyone else.  That first dance led to a lifetime of dances.  Throughout their marriage, If they heard a song they liked, it was “time” to get up and dance.
They were partners in marriage & forever dance partners.

They married soon after meeting, quickly before Robert was shipped overseas. After the war, they were blessed with & raised a family of seven children.  They settled in Fair Oaks, California which was a great place to live & raise a family. Patty did work at Aerojet and later helped her husband in his insurance business.

She loved gardening, cooking, babies & animals of all kinds. When their children were grown, Patty & Bob were able to enjoy traveling together. Patty had a very strong faith in God, and instilled that faith in her children. Over the years their family continued to grow in number.  They were very blessed to have 18 grandchildren, 38 Great Grandchildren, and recently a Great-Great Granddaughter.

Patty was preceded in death by her oldest son Michael, her husband Robert, and her grandson Robert. The attached picture is of Robert & Patty together, when he had leave during WW II.

May God Bless You, and hold You in his arms Mom, Mrs D. Patricia Scanlon-McHugh
