William Fung

William (Bill) Fung was born on January 12, 1943, to Frank Fung and Rose Look at the Chinese Hospital in San Francisco, California. He was raised in Oakland by his mother and grandmother. Bill passed away on October 5, 2022, in the presence of his loving wife Sharon Tsushima after a difficult battle with dementia.

Bill grew up in Oakland with his mother, brother Ted and sister Arlene. He graduated from Oakland Tech High School and went on to earn a degree from San Francisco State. There, he met and married his first wife, Encina Yee, in 1966. They were married for 18 years.

While in San Francisco, Bill was also in the ROTC, which led him to start his career with the Air Force. He was stationed in Arizona at Luke AFB for 5 years as a munitions officer and an Air Force captain. While he was there, Bill also attended Arizona State University to earn an MBA degree.

After the Air Force, Bill moved to Sacramento to start a family and had one child, Christopher. His first job was with IBM but most of Bill’s career was as a home mortgage officer. It was during this part of his life, he met his second wife, Sharon Tsushima. Bill and Sharon were married in Las Vegas in 2011 and continued living in Sacramento along with Sharon’s two sons, Matthew and Cory.

Bill’s many hobbies including building model airplanes, playing golf, poker and bowling. He always tried to watch Jeopardy! every weeknight, and he loved watching movies (old and new) with Sharon. In his later years, Bill enjoyed spending time and playing games with his 7 grandchildren. His family will miss him dearly, as he was always there to support family and friends and tell a good (or bad) dad joke to make us laugh.

The family would like to extend our appreciation to the staff at the Retreat, the Gardens on Laguna Springs, Kaiser Home Health and Hospice programs for their care and attention during Bill’s stay. We would also like to thank so many people for their prayers and expressions of care and condolence on Bill’s passing.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of their choice.
